OC’s Omnigarde Announces Breakthrough in Iris Recognition Benchmark

Omnigarde Debuts with Top-Tier Global Performance in NIST IREX 10 Iris Recognition Evaluation

In the test, Omnigarde ranked second among U.S.-based companies for Rank-1 and Det accuracy, and sixth and eighth respectively among all global participants.

Omnigarde LLC, a rising American leader in high-performance biometric identity, today announced a landmark achievement in the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) IREX 10 1:N (Identification) evaluation. In the latest benchmark results, Omnigarde’s debut submission (omnigarde_000) achieved elite performance for Dual-Iris (Two-Eye) accuracy, cementing its position as a premier global provider of mission-critical iris recognition technology.

The NIST IREX 10 is the world’s most rigorous independent evaluation for iris biometrics. Tested against a sequestered dataset of 500,000 records, Omnigarde’s submission excelled in the Dual-Iris Identification track—the industry "gold standard." According to results updated on February 27, 2026, Omnigarde achieved the following rankings among 32 international developers:

  • #2 Ranking in the U.S.: Secured the second-place domestic spot for both Rank-1 Accuracy and Detection Error Trade-off (DET).

  • Global Top 10: Ranked #6 worldwide for Rank-1 Accuracy and #8 worldwide for DET, outperforming established international competitors.

  • Operational Efficiency: Delivered elite precision with a rapid 1.61-second search time, proving its readiness for high-traffic, real-world processing.

"Omnigarde is proud that our iris recognition software achieved top-tier performance in our very first NIST IREX participation," said Dr. Peter Lo, Founder and CEO of Omnigarde. "This milestone validates our commitment to advancing multimodal biometric excellence and provides our partners with a proven, American-made solution for mission-critical identity."

The IREX 10 benchmark evaluates one-to-many (1:N) applications such as border security and expedited passenger processing. Omnigarde’s performance was measured at a False Negative Identification Rate (FNIR) of 0.01 and Rank-1 accuracy. Full results are available on the NIST IREX 10 Leaderboard.
